Seeds of Unity

Sing to the Lord a new song; make him holy in the church of the faithful. (Psalm 149:1)

Seeds of Unity

Face-to-face and virtual tutoring of seeds

Fiesta Cristiana's Seeds of Unity (SdU) is a tutoring ministry that works to overcome the challenges of inequality in our educational system for Hispanic/Latino "English as a Second Language" students and families. K-12 students are individually assigned with a tutor for one-on-one help with math, science, history, and English homework.

Families

Thank you for being a tutor with Seeds of Unity! The ministry depends on your involvement.

Kelly Lewis is our Tutor Coordinator. Contact her here.

We have tutoring on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30pm at Fiesta Cristiana: Room 400, 2nd Floor, 100 S. Hughes St. Apex, NC. You are welcome to attend one day a week or both days, whichever works best for you.

Click here to read the tutors' manual.

As a guardian, you must complete an online Safe Sanctuary training in order to work with children and youth in The United Methodist Church. This training culminates with a background check/certificate of conduct paid for by Apex Family of Faith Communities. Click here here to complete the training and certificate of conduct. The certificate of conduct is valid for three years; the Safe Sanctuary training must be completed every year.

Kelly has created a resource page that matches the schools' curriculum and grades/ages. Click here here for access to your site.

We are always looking for more tutors so we can open the ministry to more students. If you know someone who would like to be a tutor, please send their information (phone number, first and last name) to Kelly Lewis.

If you are interested in participating in Seeds of Unity tutoring, please contact Monica Moyes by providing your first and last name as a parent, the name of your child(ren), and the ages and grades of your child(ren). Seeds of Unity is for students in grades K-12. Tutoring is currently offered virtually.

Tutors

If you are considering registering to be an SdU tutor, please note the following:

  • Tutors do not necessarily need to know Spanish because most students receiving tutoring are bilingual.
  • However, tutors who know some Spanish can communicate more easily with SdU parents.
  • Bilingual tutors are needed to work with SdU students who are not fluent in English.

Tutors meet with their paired students (grades K-12) via Zoom or Google Meet. They work with their paired students on Google Classroom assignments, help them practice reading and math, and serve as positive mentors. If tutors need support, parents are available during all tutor-student meetings.

Thank you for being a tutor with Seeds of Unity! The ministry depends on your involvement.

If you would like more information please contact Mayra Armstrong, our Seeds of Unity coordinator; Monica@fiestafamily.org / (920) 312-7502.

As a guardian, you must meet Safe Sanctuary expectations in order to work with children and youth in the United Methodist Church. The process may include a background check paid for by Fiesta Cristiana. For people hired to work, the background check is mandatory. To apply as a guardian click here. here.
